Harry and Lola's Mission

We are committed to teaching children the value and rewards of supporting animal rescue by helping dog rescue through
supporting Aberdeen Scottish Terrier Rescue (ASTR).
- Two specific goals are:
1. Teaching the joy and rewards of reading with the Harry and Lola series of children's books.
2. Helping kids discover the thrill of writing their own stories, then publishing them using today's electronic tools.

How the Harry and Lola Book
Series Began
(And future books ... you can vote
for the title you want to see next)

Jean wrote
Smoki the Magical Cat
first.  It was the outstanding relationship
that developed between Smoki and
Harry that inspired her to write a
children's book.  She thought she'd only
be writing one.  Then, as grandmothers
and teachers read the first drafts, they
said she needed to write a book that told
the reader more about how Harry and
Lola live at home.  That's what created
A Home for Harry and Lola.
Meanwhile, people were telling Jean
that her illustrations were good enough
for a children's book.  She started
getting a lot of ideas; that is what has
lead to her commitment to create a
series.
The next book in the series, was:
Harry and Lola at the Sister's Rodeo.
Now available!  Go to
Harry and Lola

book.

Harry and Lola Meet Santa Paws was
a great success for Christmas 2011.
Jean is planning the next book in that
series and it should be available by
November 2012 as an e-book and as
part of a
Harry and Lola Santa Paws
series
book in print.  Remember, all
profits from any Harry and Lola book
goes to Aberdeen Scottish Terrier
Rescue of Oregon and Southwest
Washington.

Watch for these new Harry
and Lola books!

Jean has started some notes for:
1.
Harry and Lola lost in New York
Harry and Lola will be taking a trip to
New York City.  They will stay at the
Plaza Hotel across from Central Park.
They get separated from their daddy
and have to find their way back to safety.
2. Harry and Lola at the Circus
Harry and Lola get to go to a real old
fashion circus.  They meet lots of
animals and a clown whom they help.
How a Little Dog Saved a Life

December 26, 2010: As we were getting into the elevator at the Corvallis,
OR, Hilton Garden Inn, a woman with a housekeeping cart joined us.  It was
the day after Christmas and we were excited to be getting ready to pick up
our two rescue Scotties, Harry and Lola.
The lady smiled at us and we asked her if she had had a good Christmas.
“Wonderful,” she replied.  “My friends in the kitchen just gave me a
Christmas gift for my little dog, who saved my life.”
She had our attention.
“What do you mean, ‘saved your life?’” we asked.
“Well, you see,” she said, “I have ADD and panic attacks.  I couldn’t leave
the house.  I couldn’t work.  My kids had to do my food shopping for me.  My
life was a wreck.
“Then I got my little rescue dog and he has given me so much love that he
has restored my confidence,” she continued.  “As you can see, I now have a
job and I can drive my car and I’ve lost over 100 pounds.  All of this is
because of a dog I rescued!  But he really saved my life!”
As we got out of the elevator, my husband and I said, “Happy New Year”.
Walking down the hall, we both were thinking about the wonder and the
power of the simple love a dog can give a person.  We both thought that
Harry and Lola would bring a great deal of transformative love and joy to us.

A Scottie Love Story  --- continued from homepage

I decided to find a reputable breeder and I began to call around.  After a
few months of searching I found a lady close by with one puppy left; the
runt.  He was almost three months old.   After a few emails we planned a
meeting.
So on a weekend morning, around 6:00 AM we began our drive from
Knoxville to Memphis.  During the drive we tried to think of a name.  We
went through millions of names before finally deciding on Henry. As we
arrived at the appointed meeting location, the lady stepped out of her car
and pulled out the most adorable little puppy I had ever seen in my life.

From that moment on I knew that no matter what, Scotties would be the
only breed of dog I'd ever own. We bought him every little thing his heart
could desire, including a full health insurance plan and millions of toys,
which were all destroyed very quickly.  We slowly began to understand the
stubbornness of these little guys. But eventually he began to learn how to
be a good puppy.

But then, over the few months we had Henry, my girlfriend Debbie and I
decided to split up. Unfortunately, after two years and four month of a
great relationship, school and work made it so that we just did not have
time for each other and things fell apart.
I moved back in with my parents. Knowing neither of us would give up
Henry we split custody of him and each got to be with him.  This
arrangement made us begin to miss each other more and more. Finally
we decided to try things again making a fresh start of it.
I’m happy to say we are doing very well and Henry has been the bond that
has held us together for this whole time. Luckily, Henry has grown to
become an obedient and perfectly healthy Scottie.
Anyone who meets Henry instantly falls in love with him. Everyone at our
pet store and vet clinic would give an arm and a leg for him.  But he is
worth more to me than any amount of money on earth. We both are
obsessed with anything having to do with Scotties and plan to have many
more in the future. We love that there are couples like you out there who
understand and encourage our obsession. I just wanted to share our story
with you and thank you for all you do for Scottish terriers.

How helping a Scottie helped a family ... Henry's Story

I found an article about Harry and Lola in the Scottie News blog. What beautiful
dogs and I love the books.  I understand what it means to have a bonded pair.
Here’s my story.
We had just lost our beloved Scottie, Fergie, who died after a minor surgery.  We
were heartbroken about the loss of such a fine dog.  Then we heard about
Henry.  He was owned by a woman who was moving out of the United State to a
country that required a six month quarantine for any entering dogs.  The officials
also said there was no guarantee the dog would survive the quarantine.
Not wanting to subject her dog to such a process, she contacted a friend of ours
who then contacted us.  The lady had six dogs at the time we visited and met
Henry.  He was nine months old.  As we watched him leap through the field, we
were hooked.

A short time after Henry joined our home, our senior Scottie, Abby, also died.
Soon after that, our daughter saw an ad about a local litter of Scotties.  We knew
Henry needed another dog to play with and keep him company as he’d been
brought up with five other dogs.  Sooooo we went to see the puppies.  We fell in
love with a cute little girl, wheaten in color.  Her name is Fiona.  Henry is black,
so we have a beautiful salt and pepper pair.  They are a year apart in age and
the most bonded of any of the dogs we have ever had.
